Hey - It’s OK to Advertise During COVID-19

I’ve heard from many brands that they are either concerned to advertise at all during the pandemic or have decided to completely alter their approach to reflect what’s going on. A messaging pivot makes sense, especially if it’s something brilliant like this.

But actually, almost any kind of advertising is ok right now, according to a survey we conducted with our members over the Easter weekend. Over 5,600 people responded and overwhelmingly said they are OK with brands continuing to promote their products.

What Types of Advertising are Acceptable?

Note that product sampling is the area consumers are most keen to see brands invest in. Obviously product inventory is tricky for many brands right now, but if you have the inventory, this is something to consider. Consumers will remember the brands that engaged with them in a positive way during this crisis.

What Kinds of Offers do Consumers Want to See Online?

Although a flat discount applied to all purchases would probably represent a much larger overall savings, a lowered minimum spend or free shipping is what consumers want above all. Shout out to Amazon Prime for training consumers to believe shipping and fulfillment doesn’t/shouldn’t cost anything! Speaking of which, 87% of our respondents were happy to accept deliveries at this time!

This is a Huge Opportunity for the Concierge Economy

I predict we are all going to get so used to having items delivered that this will open up all sorts of new business opportunities beyond the simple delivery of items. For example, my local hair salon was able to provide my custom hair colour for curbside pickup to touch up my own roots, which saved me time and money. I’d love to see more traditional services or products available for delivery or pick up long after this pandemic ends.

Now is a Good Time for Consumer Surveys

Nearly 80% said they’d be happy to answer surveys for any brand without incentive. This is a major opportunity for brands to gather insights from brand fans or just consumers in general. Note that for this survey, 5,531 responses were gathered over a few days with no incentive.
