Selection Process
To apply for a campaign, visit the "New Opportunities" section in your member profile and submit your application for the campaigns you're interested in.
You must apply for specific campaigns to be considered. Simply being part of the Butterly community does not automatically enter you into campaign selections.
Important: Applying does not guarantee final selection. Once you're selected for a campaign, packages are sent to the address provided during application and cannot be rerouted. Please make sure your address is current and stable before applying for campaigns.
If you are selected for a campaign, you will receive an email notification once the application period closes and the Review Hub opens. If you have not been selected, you will not receive a notification.
You can also check your status anytime by visiting the "My Campaigns" section in your profile.
Advocates are selected based on a combination of factors, including:
- Your profile information
- Campaign requirements and intended demographic
- Your product interests
- Your past participation, review quality, and content quality
Tip: Keep your profile complete and up to date to help maximize your chances of being selected.
There is no limit on how many times you can be chosen, nor any guarantees that you are going to be chosen.
Tip: Complete all required activities on time and consistently post high-quality reviews and content to maintain your eligibility for future campaigns.
Selection for campaigns is competitive, and many Advocates apply. Signing up does not guarantee you will be selected. Please be patient. More opportunities will come.
To improve your chances of being selected:
- Keep your profile complete and up to date
- Apply to campaigns that align with your interests
- Complete all tasks on time when selected
- Ensure your social profiles are linked
Tip: Not being selected this time does not affect your chances for future opportunities. Keep applying and exploring new opportunities, even if you haven't been selected before.
If you have been selected in the past:
Make sure to complete all required tasks as outlined in your review instructions on time. Failure to do so may result in your account being negatively impacted and affect your chances of being selected in the future.
If you have not been selected in the past:
Please keep applying and remember to answer all of the application questions truthfully and completely. We thank you for your patience!
No. Some campaigns require social media, others do not.
Each campaign clearly lists its requirements. Advocates are selected based on a variety of factors, and social media is one component.
There will be some campaigns that you may not qualify for, but there are several opportunities that are available to those who do not want to post on social media.
No.
We're looking for authentic content created by you. Any content we suspect is being created by AI will be removed, which can affect your eligibility for future campaigns, and/or you may be banned.
No.
We require honest and authentic content in your written reviews and/or social content. If you don't like a product, we encourage you to write a helpful and constructive review with your real score, but don't post about it on social media.
If you have concerns about any products you receive from Butterly, please reach out to our team.
Campaign Participation
Each campaign includes specific tasks such as:
- Trying a product
- Sharing your experience
- Posting on social media (only in campaigns that require it)
- Completing surveys or reviews
All instructions will appear in your Butterly dashboard when you log in.
Advocates cannot change their shipping address after submitting their application.
Please provide your complete and accurate address during the application, including your unit number if applicable.
Many delivery couriers cannot deliver to PO Boxes, so make sure to include a valid street address to avoid delivery issues. We cannot reship or reroute packages.
We strongly recommend that you do not delete your posts from campaigns.
Even after a campaign ends, your posts remain an important part of your Advocate profile. If you post on social media for a campaign and delete your post later, it will negatively impact your account and affect your chances of being selected for future campaigns.
Completing your campaign tasks on time is important. Failure to complete tasks will negatively impact your account and your eligibility for future campaigns.
If you're having trouble completing tasks, please reach out to our team for support.
We send reminders during the review period to those who have not yet completed their review(s). Please be sure to check your spam/junk folder regularly, as sometimes emails may land there!
Extensions may be provided on a case-by-case basis, and must be requested by emailing [email protected]
Yes. However, the wording may vary.
In Canada, disclosure is required by law when a product is gifted. Advocates must indicate that the product was provided for free by the brand to ensure transparency and compliance with advertising and review guidelines.
If you experience a problem with a product (damage, defect, etc.), you can report it through the Review Hub.
The chatbot is also available to help you report any product-related issues.
Once you have applied to a campaign, you cannot withdraw.
Please make sure to apply only to campaigns that are relevant to you and that you can successfully complete.
Only reviews submitted through the links in your selection email or Butterly dashboard count as complete.
If you posted your review elsewhere (e.g., a retail website, review site, social media), it will not be marked as complete unless submitted via the provided links.
Note: Social media tasks should be completed if required, or marked as declined if they are optional. Reminders will continue until all tasks are completed or marked as done, and the campaign is fully completed.
Please check the status of your package before contacting the support team. If it is still in transit, there's no need to contact support just yet.
If your package hasn't arrived after the expected delivery time, or if your product(s) arrived damaged, we kindly ask that you email our support team at [email protected] or use the chatbot for assistance. Please include details about your campaign so we can quickly investigate and assist you.
Your reviews help us and our brand partners gain valuable insights into the products you try.
In most cases, reviews may be published to the brand's own website and/or syndicated onto other e-retailers (e.g., Walmart, Costco, Well.ca, etc).
Reviews may also be featured in advertising.
For more information, please check out our privacy policy.
Butterly or our brand partners may repost your social content on owned channels or as part of an embeddable feed, but there will always be proper attribution back to you.
If Butterly or a brand wishes to use your content for paid ads, we or the brand will reach out to you for explicit permission.
You can unsubscribe by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email you receive. Once unsubscribed, you will no longer receive notifications about future free product offers.
Points & Rewards
You earn points by participating in campaigns and surveys. These points help increase your chances of being selected for future opportunities.
You can earn points by:
- Completing campaign tasks
- Submitting high-quality reviews on time
- Submitting high-quality social content on time
A high-quality review helps others make informed decisions. It should be:
- Authentic
- Detailed
- Relevant to the product
- Helpful for the brand and other people
- Do not use AI
A high-quality social post feels authentic and connects with your audience. It should be:
- Good production value (good lighting, sound, and composition). Ensure your camera lens is clean.
- Speaking on camera about your experience with a product/service is preferred
- Trying a product on camera with its intended use, and clearly displaying the product's name and logo.
- Talking about what you like about the product, but not reading the description on the packaging.
- Unscripted. Voice-overs reading a script tend to feel inauthentic.
- Do not use AI.
Yes.
If a campaign requires social media posts and if you later delete them, the points earned for that task are removed, and it could impact your chances of being selected again.
Privacy & Data
Yes.
Your personal information is never shared without explicit consent.
Butterly does not hide consent in cookies or privacy policies. If you provide consent to share your information with a brand (e.g., opting in to hear from the brand directly), the questions will be very clear and explicit, and your information will be shared only with that brand.
Most campaigns do not include any opt-ins. However, the brand may use your address to ship the product for that program.
View the full privacy policy for details.
Free Product Opportunities
No.
Opportunities that include products are free for selected advocates.
Occasionally, a brand may offer partial compensation for a high-value item that needs to be purchased in-store. But in those cases, it is very clearly stated in the application form, so you can decide if you want to participate or not.
No. Some opportunities may involve surveys, reviews, or other participation types that do not include free products.
The majority of our campaigns include full-sized products. However, there are some cases where we distribute samples.
